Detox Ginger Broth
Delicious, spicy ginger is among the healthiest spices on the planet. It’s loaded with powerful, bioactive compounds that can benefit you in many ways. The pale yellow rhizome belongs to the Zingiberaceae family and is related to turmeric, cardamon and galangal. Like turmeric, it has amazing anti-inflammatory benefits and helps to reduce muscle pain after exercise, as well as different forms of nausea.
I love it for its fresh zesty spiciness and almost prefer the hotness of ginger over that of chili. This easy broth recipe below will feature a subtle ginger taste – almost like a ginger tea – and is easy to drink during the day or as part of a fasting program.
- 2 celery stalks
- 1 large onion
- 2 garlic
- 1 parsnip
- 1 carrot
- 2 in ginger
- 1 in turmeric
- 2 leaves of seaweed
- handful parsley and dandelion
- 1 l filtered water
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- salt / tamari sauce
Dice all vegetables, including ginger and turmeric
Fill a medium to large saucepan with water, add the vegetables, seaweed and a pinch of salt
Bring to the boil. Turn down heat and simmer for 30 minutes with the lid on
Add the greens and simmer a further 5 minutes.
Strain all veg and greens
Pour broth back into the saucepan, heat up and season with cayenne and salt or tamari
