Love Your Guts: Fibre Feast!
28 March 2018 | 7pm
Replace with functional foods.
It is vital to replace “dis-functional” foods such as sugar, refined foods and empty carbs and bad fats with functional foods, food that sparks your digestion just like enzyme rich foods and foods featuring helpful acids such as cider vinegar do. Let’s not forget fibre probably one of the most important factors when it comes to a healthy, balanced microbiome.
We mostly look at fibre to make us full for longer or when we need to move things along, but there is so much more to it. Our gut microbes feast on fibre, on the fatty acids and nutrients that only the right fibre brings to the table. A new research study at University Michigan suggests that if we do not feed the little friends and helpers, our microbes with the natural fibre they need they start munching away on our mucous membrane making it thinner and more sensitive to inflammation and pathogens.
